Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Andre Blake and Cory Burke have been named to Jamaica’s roster ahead of their tie against Peru on June 13th. Both the dynamic winger and rock solid keeper have been fixtures in the Reggae Boyz’ side since the lead up to the Gold Cup in 2016. Andre came into those dates an established star, becoming the clear cut choice for Jamaica’s number one keeper. Cory caught fire, scoring a stoppage time winner against Guyana as well as the game winner against Suriname to hand Jamaica a Gold Cup berth last year.

Blake has been his usual self, being the vocal anchor as well as a big shot stopper for a Union team that has struggled with finding consistency from a makeshift back line of Ray Gaddis, Jack Elliot, Oguchi Onyewu and Fabinho. Cory Burke has been stellar since moving out wide for Steel FC, netting two goals so far this season, but really showing a knack for picking out some good passes going forward.

Peru should be a good test for Jamaica, who will look to get in gear to try and repeat their somewhat shocking Gold Cup run from last year, finishing runner-up to Mexico.

MLS is in Open Cup/International Break so Andre Blake won’t miss any MLS matches for the Union although I wouldn’t think he’ll be selected for the Open Cup tie against Harrisburg anyway. USL doesn’t accommodate as nicely for International Duty, so Cory Burke will be unavailable for Steel FC this weekend against Saint Louis.

Congratulations to both men on their call ups and we wish them well against Peru.
