Bobby Warshaw’s book releases, Kenny Lassiter to finish out college career at La Salle & more

Baltimore Armour defender Bennett Detweiler verbally committed to Drexel for 2018. Bennett’s older brother Jameson played at Drexel for four seasons from 2013-2016.

A number of West-Mont United SA players announced their college commitments for fall 2017. They include Mitchell Coll (Daemen), Eric Rodriguez (DeSales), Phil Meszaros (Catholic), Daniel McFarland (Elizabethtown), Chris Fiore (Arcadia), Michael Pearson (York Pa.), Kazuya Hirano (Lebanon Valley) and Timothy Meyers (Grace).

Penn Fusion midfielder Eric Greer (Chadds Ford, Pa.) verbally committed to play at West Chester beginning in fall 2018.

Kenny Lassiter (Narberth, Pa.) will spend his last year of college eligibility at La Salle after three seasons and a redshirt year at Syracuse.

Mechanicsburg, Pa. native Bobby Warshaw, who last played professionally for the Harrisburg City Islanders last season after starring at Stanford and playing for FC Dallas and teams in Europe, has released a book titled When the Dream Became Reality: The journey of a professional soccer player, and the push for meaning, purpose, and contentment. Former La Salle University star and former City Islander Jason Plumhoff re-signed with the club last week. The 25-year-old from Germany played most recently in the NASL with Indy Eleven. He played at Reading United and Ocean City Nor’easters while in college and signed with Harrisburg the first time in 2015.

The Philadelphia Union is partnering with New Jersey Youth Soccer to host tryouts for the New Jersey Olympic Development Program this weekend and August 12-13.

Former Philadelphia Union youth Darius Madison (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored his third goal of the season for Rochester Rhinos.

Corey Hertzog (Reading, Pa.) scored his 20th career goal for Pittsburgh Riverhounds and it was a beauty.

Villanova released its 2017 schedule.

NCAA.com lists Virginia Tech goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard (Greenville, Del.) among its players to watch this fall.

Lundgaard was also named to the PDL Eastern All-Conference team along with New York Red Bulls U23 teammate Brian White (Flemington, N.J.), Ocean City Nor’easters defender Daniel Kozma and Reading United forward Aaron Molloy. Reading United Alexandre Bouillennec, Lamine Conte (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Frantzdy Pierrot were honorable mentions.

Forty-nine boys and girls from Eastern Pennsylvania were named to the Region 1 player pool for the Olympic Development Program.
