Bethlehem Steel FC and Philadelphia Union U19 goalkeeper Tomas Romero is returning to South America this month to compete with the El Salvador U17 team in a multi-sport event held every four years.

Romero, of Cherry Hill, N.J., was last with the El Salvador team for the CONCACAF U17 Championships in Panama back in April and is one of 18 players on the roster. D.C. United Academy members Allexon Saravia and Alexis Cerritos are also in the squad.

Still just 16, Romero has had a breakout year dating back to an invite to the Philadelphia Union’s preseason training camp in Florida. He was a regular at first training throughout the season while starting in goal seven times for Bethlehem Steel FC and has made three starts this season with the Philadelphia Union U19 team.

The 18th edition of the Bolivarian Games will be played November 11-25 in Santa Marta. Participating countries include Bolivia, host Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
