Union U17s hosting New York Red Bulls in GA Cup match
The Philadelphia Union Academy team will host their division rivals in a match at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken Sunday at 1 p.m.
Qualification for the 2018 Generation adidas Cup continues this weekend for the Philadelphia Union U17 team as they host division rivals New York Red Bulls in a one-off match before heading to Atlanta.
The match — scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at The Proving Grounds on Sunday — was initially scheduled to be played in December but canceled because of cold weather.
The Union are currently on top of the East regional standings after collecting eight points in three games played at Power Training Complex in October. New York Red Bulls are in a two-way tie for second with six points after winning both games they played.
The Red Bulls won the last meeting between the two teams in league play in late October on a deflected goal by Scott Taylor in the 86th minute. Taylor had four goals in the first two GA Cup qualifiers and has 18 in 14 league matches.
As a team, the Union have conceded 18 goals in 18 games counting their first three GA Cup qualifiers but face a high-powered Red Bulls attack that is 14-1-0 in league play while outscoring opponents 43-15.
The Union travel to Atlanta to play D.C. United on February 17, followed by a match against NYCFC on February 19.
The top two teams in the East will advance to the Champion Division at the GA Cup finals in late March. The remaining teams will be placed in the Premier Division for the competition. International teams are invited to play in both divisions.
