Hackworth: Mondragon Is A Game-Time Decision

Ryan Bright, of CSN Philly, is reporting that John Hackworth, the Philadelphia Union’s assistant head coach, has said that starting goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon will be a game-time decision against FC Dallas on Saturday.

Mondragon hurt his groin late in the second half of the Union’s Wednesday match against the Los Angeles Galaxy, needing an in-game run down in order to continue on. The 39-year-old Colombian international was clearly affected by the injury during the game, as he was unable to take goal kicks for the remainder of the match. He is, however, not listed on the Union’s injury list.

19-year-old Zac MacMath is Mondragon’s back up, with Thorne Holder out once again because of a concussion. The USMNT under-20 starting goalkeeper has yet to play for the Union in MLS-related play, with Holder playing in the Union’s first ever Reserve League game, and Mondragon starting all MLS league games and the Union’s one USOC game.

MacMath was a three year starter at the University of Maryland, leading the nation in goals against average at 0.44 his freshman year. Along with winning the National Championship in 2008, MacMath was 51-10-3 during his college career, letting in only 43 goals in 65 games played (64 starts).
