Is Trinidad And Tobago Under-23 Forward Phillip Borde On Trial With The Philadelphia Union?

Published

on

According to Trinidad and Tobago news outlet Guardian Media, under-23 Olympic qualifying forward Phillip Borde is with the Union in some capacity. The 20-year-old Borde is only one of two players on the Olympic roster listed with a specific team next to his name, with the other player being Kevin Molino of the Orlando City Lions.

When contacted the Union declined comment on the situation, citing team policy on not commenting on "players who aren't members of the club's current roster."

Two award laden seasons – including Rookie of the Year and First Team All Atlantic Soccer Conference selections in 2009 – at Howard University brought Borde to Trinidad and Tobago's attention, though the striker is a USA native.

Borde will play for Trinidad and Tobago against at least Grenada, on July 19th, in the team's first round of 2012 Olympic qualifying. The team will then play against Curaçao, on July 21st, and Dominica, on July 23rd, to finish off their round robin grouping.
