Sunday Morning Union Freekicks: Two Points Lost

Published

on

Well, yesterday wasn’t awful for the Philadelphia Union and its fans. Nor was it great. Indeed, the Union were so very close to taking full points from another match. And due to the Union’s match at Real Salt Lake originally scheduled for next week being moved to September, the club will have two full weeks to rue on yesterday before they take on San Jose at PPL Park. No fun. Today’s open discussion thread for all things Union and MLS.

Nowak: Union ‘afraid to score the second goal’ [Jonathan Tannenwald, philly.com] – Tannenwald, as per usual, has a great selection of post-game audio to listen to. Also includes an interesting quote from Peter Nowak.

Seattle late show exposes offensive woes [Christopher A. Vito, The Delaware County Daily Times] – It has become a bit of an 'okay, well, they have their goal for this week' thing, hasn't it.

Sounders' Keller, Union's Mondragon combine nearly a century of goal-keeping experience [Marc Narducci, Philadelphia Inquirer] – The longevity of goalkeepers and their ability to keep such a high level of play continues to amaze me.

Revolution looking for Lekic to be dynamic [Frank Dell’Appa, The Boston Globe] – The 29 year-old is expected to make his Revs debut later tonight at Houston.

Special-needs soccer at Little League field [Ray Smith, Hudson Reporter] – The New York Red Bulls continue to be amongst MLS’s most active organizations within their own community. Great stuff from them.

CHIVAS USA: Feilhaber decision rests on cap concerns [Scott French, ESPN Los Angeles] – It sounds like while Robin Fraser’s club hasn’t necessarily finalized their decision, they’re very likely to pick up Benny Feilhaber.
