Mondragon’s Cryptic Tweets Hint Toward Juan Pablo Angel Joining The Union

Faryd Mondragon set off a roller coaster of emotions for Philadelphia Union fans on Twitter when the starting goalkeeper tweeted about his “brother,” Juan Pablo Angel.

The 40-year-old received a flurry of reactionary tweets from fans, as he said it'd fulfill a dream to play with Angel. 

Speculation from around the country began, with writers and fans alike passing around the tweet and wondering if Mondragon meant 'will' or 'would' in the tweet, considering the Spanish version used 'would.' Some outlets immediately picked up on Mondragon's words, going so far as to say that he stated that Angel would be coming to Philadelphia.

Mondragon's follow up tweet seemed to dispel the previous tweet's ambiguousness, but not for everyone.

Some fans were thinking consipracy after the tweet was sent out, saying that perhaps the team asked Mondragon to clarify as to hide what the team's actions are to be. Another tweet by Mondragon certainly didn't do anything to correct them on their theories.

Then Mondragon replied to a fan with the following, using "will" again instead of "would:

The international transfer window for MLS ends today, but the window for movement within the USA and Canada is open for another month. However, the Los Angeles Galaxy need to move Angel to make room for possible new designated player Robbie Keane.

Most interesting in the relationship between Mondragon and Angel, other than Angel having been on the Union's radar since before the season started, is that the Union originally met with Mondragon because of Angel. When the Union went to talk to Angel during the re-entry draft process, Mondragon was over Angel's house. Soon thereafter, Mondragon was out of contract at FC Koln, a team in the German Bundesliga, and the Union were having him put his signature on a contract.
