Philadelphia Union Decline Options On Stefani Miglioranzi And Chase Harrison, Both Available In 2011 MLS Re-Entry Draft
The Philadelphia Union revealed today that veteran central midfielder and defender Stefani Miglioranzi and emergency back up goalkeeper Chase Harrison are both available in December’s 2011 Re-Entry Draft. Both players had their options declined by the Union for the upcoming 2012 season.
Miglioranzi was acquired by the Union in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft after spending time in England and with the Columbus Crew and Los Angeles Galaxy. The 34-year-old made $130,000 in base salary, and $153,125.00 in guaranteed compensation in 2011. The green card holding Brazilian newly minted American citizen played in only 17 games, starting just 11 of those matches, after playing in 26 games and starting 25 of them in 2010. The long time midfielder was relegated to a back up central defensive role for much of the second half of the 2011 MLS regular season.
Harrison was picked up by the Union as an emergency goalkeeper when both third string goalkeeper Thorne Holder and starter Faryd Mondragon were out long term with injuries. The Union recently released Holder, making it appear that Harrison may remain with the team, but the career goalkeeper injury pool player seems to be on his way out of Philadelphia.
The first round of the Re-Entry Draft is on December 5, when teams can pick a player, but at the price of his contract with his former team. A second round takes place shortly thereafter, allowing teams to once again select any remaining players available for the Re-Entry Draft, but the selecting team is able to re-negotiate the player's salary. Teams are able to re-sign any players available for the Re-Entry Draft by 5 pm on December 2 through a "Bona Fide Offer."
