Union: Mondragon Undergoes Successful Surgery On Broken Finger
The Philadelphia Union announced today that starting goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon underwent successful surgery on his injured right ring finger.
Now that Mondragon has undergone the procedure, the Union have made the statement that the 40-year-old will miss around four weeks, which will prohibit him from playing in between three and five games, including Wednesday’s game against the New England Revolution and Saturday’s against the Portland Timbers.
Rookie goalkeeper Zac MacMath is set to make his first ever start in MLS versus the Revolution. MacMath played 45 minutes of clean sheet soccer in the Salt Lake game, making him one of the last 2011 MLS SuperDraft first round selections to make an appearance this season.
The Brotherly Game originally reported Sunday night that Mondragon had suffered a broken right ring finger against Real Salt Lake late in the first half. A league source informed tBG of the injury ahead of Mondragon’s reported MRI, which he later tweeted.
