CJ Sapong Arrested for DUI and Reckless Driving
The Philadelphia Union forward was arrested early Friday morning in Philadelphia County
Philadelphia Union forward CJ Sapong was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless driving, according to a press release from the team. The incident happened early Friday morning, and Sapong was arraigned later that night and released on his own recognizance per Kevin Kinkead of CBS 3.

Sapong was arraigned tonight at 8:44pm. He’ll have a status hearing on May 11th.

Additionally, Sapong will be required to undergo an assessment by doctor's employed by the MLS Substance Abuse and Mental Health Program before he is allowed to play again. So unless that assessment is today, it looks as though the Union will be without Sapong for their match against Toronto. It is unknown how long Sapong will be away from the team, but it would be incredibly likely that he will face a suspension from the league once they conclude their investigation.
Union Technical Director Chris Alright released a statement after the arrest:
This news could not come at a worse time for a Union squad that just can't catch a break this season. Sapong has been one of the few bright spots on this squad tallying a goal and an assist so far this season. The Union will now take a serious hit to their wing and forward depth with the loss of Sapong, meaning they may have to call up some reinforcements from Harrisburg.
