Union acquire forward Charlie Davies in trade with Revs

The Philadelphia Union with another eleventh-hour deal to bring in New England Revolution forward Charlie Davies.

The Philadelphia Union announced this morning that they had acquired New England Revolution forward Charlie Davies “in exchange for General Allocation Money, Targeted Allocation Money and the Union’s natural first round selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.” This concludes a whirlwind day of moves for the Union that also saw Alejandro Bedoya come in from Nantes in Ligue 1 and Union legend Sebastien Le Toux head west to the Colorado Rapids.

Davies had 10 goals last season with New England, however missed most of this season while battling liposarcoma, a type of cancer in fat cells. He returned to the pitch this past weekend in New England’s 3-1 loss to Orlando City. Davies came on in the 75th minute as a replacement for Scott Caldwell.

Like Bedoya, Davies has also represented the United States, earning 17 caps and scoring four goals. His last appearance however was in 2009, before he was involved in a serious car accident.
