More than three weeks after arriving on loan from FC Metz in France, Cape Verde international midfielder Jamiro Monteiro has been cleared to make his MLS debut.

The 25-year-old has been ineligible to play in the last three games awaiting his visa and international transfer certificate to be finalized. He was initially expected to be available for last weekend’s game against the Columbus Crew but there was as delay in his ITC being finalized.

“I think he adds a new special dynamic to our midfield,” head coach Jim Curtin said at his press conference on Wednesday. “He brings a unique skillset, incredible feet and incredible speed and a real engine and a willingness to learn.”

Monteiro’s addition to the roster means the team now has 10 international players and only eight available spots. Kacper Przybylko has been loaned in recent weeks to Bethlehem Steel to free one spot but unless either of the pending green cards are finalized in time another player will need to be loaned down for roster compliance.

Monteiro’s loan is six months with options to extend the loan and make it permanent.
