The Philadelphia Union scored off a penalty kick and a corner kick in the first half to continue their strong start to the Concacaf Under-13 Champions League in Costa Rica with a 2-0 win over Futbol Consultants on Sunday afternoon.

Henry Bernstein opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with his second of the tournament off a penalty kick. Bernstein set up the second goal in first half stoppage time when his corner kick found the head of Angel Gael Medrano. It was Medrano’s second goal of the tournament in his second competitive game for the Union. The former Michigan Jaguars forward was nominated for player of the day.

Andrew Rick, meanwhile, picked up his second straight clean sheet in goal for the Union. Two games into group play, the Union are now 2-0-0 with six points and a plus 10 goal differential.

They wrap up Group B play today at 1 p.m. against Mexican club Chapulineros De Oaxaca, which lost to Luz y Vida of Honduras 2-0 on Sunday after beating Futbol Consultants 1-0 in their first game.

Games are being streamed live on the Scotiabank FC Facebook page.
