A 25-year-old center back from the top flight in Norway is reportedly close to joining the Philadelphia Union.

Jakob Glesnes has spent his entire career in Norway and has played, playing for Strømsgodset since 2016.

Glesnes would give the Union four center backs on the first team roster with the possibility of Jamaica international and Union II center back Jamoi Topey, who recently obtained a green card, being signed to the first team.

If finalized, the Glesnes signing would give head coach Jim Curtin more flexibility with his back line formations and cover in the event that Mark McKenzie is part of the United States U23 squad for qualifying and the Tokyo Olympics.

The 6-foot-2 defender is under contract with Strømsgodset through the end of 2020, according to Transfermarkt, so unless it’s a season-long loan would require a transfer fee. His value is listed at $798k on Transfermarkt.
