Martinez handed a one-game suspension for ‘violent conduct’ from Disciplinary Committee

El Brujo will miss Orlando City match

The Philadelphia Union will be without enforcing midfielder Jose Martinez for the Group A finale against Orlando City on Monday.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee handed down a one-match band to the first-year Union player for “violent conduct against Inter Miami CF defender Andres Reyes in the 40th minute of the Philadelphia Union match against Inter Miami CF on July 14.”

In his place, Warren Creavalle will likely start.

Creavalle started the season opener against FC Dallas. Creavalle came on as a sub in both the Inter Miami and NYCFC games in Orlando. Offseason acquisition Matej Oravec, who was expected to compete for a starting spot when he was acquired in the offseason, has yet to make his MLS debut.

Martinez has been booked in all three games he’s played for the Union after not playing in the season opener in Frisco.

Video of the incident is available on mlssoccer.com.
