Report: Belgium club KRC Genk closing in on Mark McKenzie

After all the talk about Celtic, McKenzie could be Belgium bound

After months of Scottish media reports about Celtic interest in Philadelphia Union homegrown Mark McKenzie, Belgium club KRC Genk appears to be closing in on the U.S. international.

Reports surfaced Monday of the club’s interest in the 21-year-old from Bear, Delaware.

A separate report in Belgium makes it seem like the deal could be finalized in the next day or so.

Anderlecht in Belgium had been one of the clubs previously noted as tracking his progress. Union Berlin in Germany has also been mentioned as showing interest. Most of the chatter about a potential McKenzie transfer has been around Scottish giants Celtic, which has reportedly had a $3 million offer rejected by the Union.

Wherever he might end up in a January transfer, it’s looking less and less likely that Mark McKenzie will be back suiting up for the Union in 2021.
