Matt Freese called up to the U-23 USMNT

Fresse replaces Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa who was injured before camp started

Injuries are forcing roster changes for the upcoming Under-23 training camp. One of those changes is now Union goalkeeper Matt Freese is replacing Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa. Ochoa suffered a quad injury before arriving to camp.

Freese appeared in a total of three matches for the U-23 Mens National Team. In that time he has only allowed one goal in 180 minutes. The goalkeeper spent most of the 2020 season with the Union II. In seven appearances with the second team he went 1-3-3. 

The second change made for the January camp is D.C. United defender Donovan Pines replacing LA Galaxy defender Julian Araujo. The defender withdrew from the camp due to an Illness. Pines appeared in 16 matches for United and scored three games. 

The U-23s will train alongside the senior team until January 24th. Once that is done several of the players are expected to be called up to the senior squad for a planned match at the end of this month. 

Below is the updated roster for the U-23s January Camp.

United), Bryan Reynolds (FC Dallas), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United FC), Sam Vines (Colorado Rapids)
MIDFIELDERS (6): Hassani Dotson (Minnesota United FC), Bryang Kayo (Wolfsburg/GER), Andrés Perea* (Orlando City SC), Tanner Tessmann (FC Dallas), Eryk Williamson (Portland Timbers), Jackson Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes)
