Union’s defense off to historic start with three shutouts
Through the first three matches, the Union’s opponents have scored 0, 0 and 0 goals. This marks the first time in Union history that the Boys in Blue defense have collected three-consecutive clean sheets to begin a new campaign.

Adding to the Union’s sparkling debut was Monteiro, who opened and ended the scoring for Philadelphia in their 4-0 second leg win against Saprissa. Monteiro was also a key figure without the ball, making seven ball recoveries over the course of the two legs.
