Concacaf Champions League Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 0 vs Club America 2, Final

Club America comes to Chester with a 2-0 lead in aggregate

90+4’ – The final whistle blows and the Union and the final MLS team in the CCL are out after a 4-0 lose on aggregate.

90+3’ – Another goal for America. The entire backline with terrible defending finds an open man near the post who pokes it into the net.

90+1’ – We will have at least three minutes of stoppage time and now America is making a change here.

89’ – Sullivan comes on for Flach, who had a great night. McGlynn comes on for Bedoya.

88’ – Union XI look defeated and have no energy left letting America get numbers behind them. American lines up and takes their time to send in the ball from the far corner flag. It is cleared by the U.

82’ – Back to back corners for the Union with Aaronson sending them in. It is cleared by America.

79’ – America gets a run on the counter and the strike comes off Glesnes for a deflection and into the net. This is America’s only second shot on net. Makes it three deflected shots by the U for goals into the net in the series. Union will need to score 4 goals in the next ten minutes to get to the final.

77’ – Play is stopped as Burke goes down after jumping over Przybylko. He is now up and running on the sideline.

76’ – Double switch here for the Union Aaronson on for Monteiro and Gazdag comes on for Mbaizo.

75’ – America just dumping the ball up the field to clear anytime they get on the ball.

70’ – America makes their third sub of the night. Curtin has not even made a change, he really has no great options to choose. Plus why mess with the current flow that the XI have, minus a few minutes after the missed PK. It has been all Union

66’ – America makes a sub pulling off Martinez and bringing on Martin.

65’ – Cross is sent from the left side into a wide open space on the right side off the net, the only issue no one from the Union committed to the run.

62’ – Burke goes down and draws a foul and now the players are going at each other for a bit. The Union earn a free kick from and it is sent into the box and it gets cleared off the line.

60’ – Ref says original decision stands play on. The free kick is sent to the roof of the net.

58’ – We have a VAR review of something. The ref is making his way to the sidelines. They are looking at a potential red card on Bedoya it seems.

55’ – Another corner for the Union and it is taken real quick and the ball is heading the other way.

48’ – Union earn a PK here as Przybylko is taken down inside the box and denied an obvious scoring chance. Right now there is a yellow card to an America player. Monteiro lines up and it is saved and off the crossbar. Game is still 0-0.

46’ – Second half underway.

45+2’ – Late challenge by Monteiro earns him a yellow card. Ref blows for halftime.

45+1 – We will see at least two minutes of stoppage time here.

44’ – Przybylko earns a corner for the Union. It is played short and the cross in is blocked for another corner. The second one is sent into the box and cleared out.

38’ – Union earn another free kick here after Wagner is taken down on the left side of the field. The free kick is sent to the far post and is easily cleared by America.

36’ – Union win the ball back and putting pressure on the backline, earns a corner from the near flag. It is sent into the box and gets cleared. The second chance ball is sent back in to the far post to an open and mistimed jump from Glesnes and the header goes over the net.

35’ – Burke with a clear shot and he tries to settle the shot and it gets blocked. Union with the first corner of the night. The shot from the far flag is sent into the box and the ref whistles for a foul.

31’ – America’s Cordova earns a yellow card. The Union take the free kick quickly and really squandered any opportunity from the free kick.

27’ – Bedoya earns a yellow card for a hard slide. Martinez also gets booked for dissent. America lines up for a free kick with a shot on goal, they take it and send the ball sky high over the crossbar.

19’ – Glesnes earns a yellow card after contact was made and he pushes the America player down. America now has a free kick from the left side of the field. The kick is sent into the box and Blake punches it straight up and then gets knocked down by America for a foul.

15’ – 2021 is turning into a high dental bill for Wagner. Him and an America player are both on the ground after a collision between the two of them. Sanchez and Wagner both being attended to by the training staff.

11’ – A bunch of long balls for both teams, they also are both playing a very high defensive line.

6’ – Monteiro draws a foul and is standing over the free kick from the middle of the field. The ball is sent into the edge of the box and amounts to nothing.

4’ – America earns a free kick about 6 yards above the box. America is over the ball on the right side of the field. A minute after the foul, Sanchez sends it into the net and it is easily handled by Blake.

1’ – Second leg is underway with the Union in their dark blue and defending the River End.
