How to Watch: Local qualifiers for 2022 Open Cup
4 local teams to take part in single game elimination competition to qualify for next year’s Open Cup

Qualifying for the 2022 Lamar US Open cup gets underway with the first round of local qualifying. Saturday’s match will be between the Philadelphia Lone Star and the Philadelphia Ukraine Nationals. Kickoff for the game is at 3 PM.
Looking into the history of the US Open Cup, you may recognize the team name of the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals. The team has won the cup 4 times, including back to back tournaments in 1960, 61. The club would win it again in 63 and for the last time in 1966.
Also this weekend, the region will see the United German Hungarians take on Vereinigung Erzgebirge Soccer. The two teams will play Sunday afternoon at Temple’s Ambler Campus. Kickoff for that match happens at 2:30pm.
Open Division Qualifying is conducted as a single-game knockout style format. Matchups were determined based on geographic location to minimize travel time and expenses. The home team for the game will be deterred by a coin flip. Pairings for subsequent rounds on Oct. 16-17, Nov. 20-21 and Dec. 18-19 will be determined and announced after each preceding round of games has taken place. The survivors will advance to the 2022 Open Cup First Round, set for March 22-23.
There are 92 teams that will take part in the Open Division Qualifying round. Only 11 teams will make it to the 2022 Open Cup as local amateur teams.
