Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 1 vs New York Red Bulls 1, Final



Game Updates

90+7’ – Ref blows the whistle to make the game final. Union continue the draw streak.

90+6’ – Burke with a run and gets a pass from McGlynn but Burke’s shot is saved.

90+4’ – Red Bull’s Tolkin picks up what is the 8th card of the night. All but 1 of them came in the last 45 minutes.

90+2’ – Red Bulls make their final change of the night Barlow comes off and is replaced by Ryan.

90+1’ – We will see at least 7 minutes of stoppage time here.

89’ – Union switching the attack from left and right sides of the box. Eventually Martinez gets it and does his once a game long shot. He keeps getting closer to finding the top corner of the net. But this one curls down after it goes behind the net.

87’ – Red Bulls making a change here and pulling out their goal scorer. The replaced him with Pendant.

85’ – Bedoya goes for a late sliding challenge and earns a yellow card. Red Bulls now have a free kick.

83’ – Union sub here bringing Mbaizo in for Harriel.

82’ – The ref is heading to the monitor. Standby for his ruling. After looking at it, he waved it off.

79’ – Carranza plays clean up after hitting the second ball into the back of the net. Everyone goes crazy and right now we have a VAR check on the goal.

76’ – Red Bulls earn a free kick from 30 yards out after McGlynn takes a player down and earns a yellow card. The service was not a threat at all.

70’ – Subs are coming in for both teams here. Union bring on Burke and McGlynn here for Santos and Flach. For the dead bulls its Edelman entering the game for Fernandez.

66’ – Martinez doesn’t track Luquinhas very well who was able to get on the end of a pass inside the 6 yard box and converts his shot. Game is now leveled at 1.

65’ – Martinez picks up his yellow card. He will now be out of the Wednesday’s match.

63’ – Santos with a nice chance in front of net and he elects to pass it. The ball eventually finds its way out of play for a Corner. The Union’s corner is sent in and easily caught by the goalkeeper.

60’ – Flurry of action here with at least three shots from the Union on goal. During the stoppage in play here they checked for a hand ball and the ref eventually says play on.

58’ – Corner is played short and the delivery is sent wide and out for a goal kick.

57’ – Red Bulls have a free kick from the left of the box. The ball is sent to the far post and deflects out for a NY corner.

55’ – Referee Vazquez shows Nealis his second yellow for the late challenge on Santos and earns a red card. NY playing 30+ minutes down a man.

54’ – One play after the restart and Santos is down on the field.

52’ – Still waiting for the restart but before we get back underway referee Vazquez is handing out yellow cards like water. Union’s Carranza and the Red Bulls Fernandez enter the refs book.

50’ – Play is stopped after a player NY player goes down. Moments later we have a scrum with players from both sides involved.

47’ – GOOOOOOAAAAALLLL for the UUUUNion! Gazdag picks up the ball at the top of the box and starts a run. He passes it for a give and go from Santos and then Gazdag buries the shot to the back of the net.

46’ – Game resumes with no changes for the Union. However the Red Bulls have made a change Harper is on for Klimala.


45+1’ – We will see just a minute of stoppage time here at the end of the half.

41’ – Free kick for NY and it is sent into the penalty area and Blake shows his quick reaction skills to save a shot.

39’ – Red Bull corner is sent it and quickly cleared by the U.

36’ – Another corner here for the U. Sent towards the middle and then bounces around a little bit before NY was able to clear it out.

35’ – Union earn a corner after a nice counter from the Union. Ball is played towards the near post, where Bedoya flicks it onto the net and it is saved by a stretching Red Bull goalkeeper.

25’ – A terrible challenge from behind committed by Red Bull’s Nealis. Ref is right there to show him the game’s first yellow card. Union have a free kick from about 40 yards out. Nothing comes from it.

19’ – After another foul committed by the red bulls the Union have a free kick from about 45 yards out. Wagner sends it long into the box and the second chance ball is sent high and wide of the net by Flach.

18’ – Play is stopped after Bedoya gets hit late while in the air. Seconds after the restart we have another collision further down the field.

11’ – Wagner takes it and hits it directly into the wall. Where the ball gets lost and sent out for a corner. Wagner takes it from the near flag. The second chance ball is sent back into the penalty area and the goalkeeper and Elliott collide. Goal kick for Red Bulls.

9’ – Ref Vazquez plays advantage but calls an end to it when it wasn’t cleanly there. Union now have a free kick about 25 yards out and the center of the field. Wagner and Elliott are standing over the ball.

5’ – Red Bulls GK is high up the field, flach is able to pick up the ball. However the Union couldn’t execute in the final third.

4’ – Red Bulls have the first corner of the game and its from the far flag. The delivery is sent to the far post and then cleared by the Union.

2’ – Just about 90 seconds into this one and the ball has already found itself out of play three times.

1’ – The I-95 rivalry match is underway. The Union are wearing their new dark blue and gold kits. Here in the first half they are defending the river end.
