Kensington SC joining The League for Clubs for inaugural season

Kensington Soccer Club is joining area clubs Atlantic City FC, Lighthouse SC and First State FC for the first season of The League for Clubs this summer.

“Kensington Soccer Club is proud to join the League For Clubs, bringing high-level opportunities to committed players from the city of Philadelphia,” said Tim Summiel, Technical Director at Kensington SC, in a social media post. “This platform will help our athletes compete, grow, and thrive on and off the field.”

Kensington SC was founded in 2010 and started as an indoor program for teens, running from January to March. What started as a small seasonal program has grown into a year-round organization that provides everything from after-school clinics to camps and the chance for players to compete at all skill levels from recreational to competitive.

Currently, Kensington SC is competing in the Eastern Premier Soccer League, playing in the Delaware River Conference. They will play their home matches at Northeast High School, which was founded in 1890 and is one of the oldest high schools in Philadelphia. Northeast has stood at its current location on Cottman Avenue since 1957. Two members of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Walter Bahr and Len Oliver, were graduates of Northeast High School.

Kensington and Lighthouse give the new league a footprint in the city of Philadelphia and an opportunity for Kensington and Lighthouse to grow their summer programs for U23 players. Atlantic City FC is one of the founding members of the new league. Both the Aces and First State FC are local departures from the NPSL.

As things stand, local men’s amateur clubs will be competing in three summer leagues with a national footprint.
