Drexel, Rider stake group leads in Philly Soccer 6 Cup groups

The Philly Soccer 6 Cup opened last weekend with games on Friday night in New Jersey and Saturday afternoon at Villanova.

Rider played Temple to a 1-1 draw at home on Friday night and picked up a second point on a penalty kick shootout. Temple recorded a point from the draw.

Drexel beat Villanova 1-0 on an early goal from newcomer Brian Salvino to open their Philly Soccer 6 Cup play with all three points on Saturday while Rider played Temple to a 1-1 draw and picked up a second point in a penalty kick shootout.

The cup competition will take the weekend off and resume on Friday, March 28 when La Salle hosts Rider at 7 p.m. Villanova will host Saint Joseph’s the following day at 1 p.m.

The final group games will be played on April 4 and 6. Temple will host La Salle at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4 and Drexel hosts Saint Joe’s two days later at 3 p.m.

The first, third and fifth place games will be played simultaneously at 8 p.m. at WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester on Saturday, April 12.
