DOOPing Overseas: Trusty wins Scottish Premiership, Adeniran scores in 6-0 win

It was a great weekend for the Union, and the same can be said for former Union players playing overseas. For the third time this season, a former blue and gold player won a trophy! We also saw two players get on the scoresheet and two past center backs lead their teams to clean sheets.
With sustained success this decade, fans have seen some of the brightest academy talents, their favorite players, and outcasts make their way overseas to compete in some of the best leagues in the world. The club is represented in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and more.
Let’s see how some of those former Union players fared in last week’s matches:
Auston Trusty – The former Union defender is a league winner for the first time in his career! Celtic clinched the Scottish Premiership title with a 5-0 road win against Dundee United. Trusty was an unused substitute in the match. The 26-year-old started all 20 matches he featured in during league play. Trusty formed a strong partnership with fellow U.S. Men’s National Team defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. Trusty will have the chance to win another trophy at the end of May when Celtic and Aberdeen play in the Scottish FA Cup Final.
Sam Adeniran – The former Union striker found the back of the net in LASK’s 6-0 win over SK Austria Klagenfurt on Saturday. Adeniran megged the keeper from a tight angle in the 83rd minute to put the cherry on top of LASK’s fifth consecutive win. Adeniran came on in the 67th minute, registering a 0.33 (xG). With one win in their final four games, LASK will clinch a UEFA Conference League playoff qualification spot for next season.
Paxten Aaronson – The former Union midfielder is helping FC Utrecht stay in the race for the Eredivisie’s final Champions League Place. Aaronson registered an assist in his side’s 4-0 road win against RKC Waalwijk. The 21-year-old completed 91 percent of his passes, had 62 touches, and made nine recoveries. Utrecht went undefeated in April, with three wins and a draw. FC Utrecht is tied on points with Feyenoord for third place, the final Champions League spot in the league, but behind on goal differential with three games left.
Brenden Aaronson – The former Union midfielder played 86 minutes in Leeds United’s 4-0 win over Bristol City on Monday. The older Aaronson created three chances and completed 85 percent of his passes. He also won all six of his duels (ground and aerial), the most by any player in the match. With a win on the final day of the season next weekend, Aaronson and Leeds will be crowned champions of the EFL Championship.
Damion Lowe – The former Union defender notched his third shutout in his last three games played. Lowe was superb defensively for Al Akhdoud in Wednesday’s 1-0 road win against Al Kholood. Lowe made nine clearances and six recoveries, and won all five of his duels (ground and aerial). With the win, Lowe’s side leaped out of the relegation zone, currently safe by one point. There are five matches left to determine if Lowe will be playing in the Saudi Pro League next season.
