Four players from the Philadelphia Union heading to U-17 World Cup
Four players from the Philadelphia Union organization and a fifth who used to play in the Union’s academy will be on the U.S. roster for the upcoming U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Cavan Sullivan, Kellan LeBlanc, Jamir Johnson and Jordan Griffin all received call-ups along with Orange County SC defender Pedro Guimaraes.
The call-ups will overlap with both the MLS and MLS Next Pro post-season. Should the U.S. advance to the final on Nov. 27, Cavan Sullivan would miss all but the conference final for MLS and all but Sunday’s first round of the MLS Next Pro playoffs. LeBlanc, Johnson and Griffin also are regulars for Union II.
The USA kicks off Group I play on Wednesday, Nov. 5 against Burkina Faso (10:15 a.m. ET; FS2, Universo, Peacock), faces Tajikistan on Saturday, Nov. 8 (9:45 a.m. ET; FS2, Telemundo, Peacock) and closes the group stage against Czechia on Tuesday, Nov. 11 (9:45 a.m. ET; FS2, Universo, Peacock). All group stage matches will be played at the Aspire Zone in Al Rayyan, Qatar.
