The USMNT’s 2026 World Cup campaign ended after Monday’s 4-1 defeat to Belgium. The defeat marked the end of an era for the USMNT after years of buildup to the World Cup at home in the United States.

Now, the next World Cup cycle has begun. Four years from now, the 2030 World Cup will kick off across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. While much of the current core of the team can keep their spots to play at the 2030 tournament, there is plenty of young talent that can challenge them for their positions. It is very difficult to predict everything that can happen in four years — but why not try?

Without further ado, here is my USMNT roster prediction for the 2030 World Cup.

Goalkeepers

1. Matt Freese
Some USMNT fans may not be excited to see Freese as the first name on the list after his error against Belgium. Still, it is important to remember that most of Freese’s career is still ahead of him. He’s only 27 years of age, five years younger than his counterpart Matt Turner. Yes, it was a horrible moment for Freese in Seattle, but he is still a great shot stopper and has plenty of career left to rebound.

2. Gabriel Slonina
Gaga was a highly touted prospect out of the Chicago Fire system, earning a transfer to Chelsea in 2022. Since then, Slonina has been loaned out twice and missed time due to injuries, playing most of his matches in the Chelsea youth setup. It hasn’t been an incredibly impressive four years, but Slonina is only 22 years old and has had plenty of experience for a young goalkeeper.

With recent rumors that Slonina may be leaving Chelsea soon, it’s definitely possible that he finds consistent playing time and gets back on track before 2030.

3. Brian Schwake
With a gap in elite talent in the goalkeeper position for USMNT, American keepers can come out of the woodwork to claim a spot on the USMNT roster before 2030. Schwake could very easily be one of those players. After three years in Scotland and two in Spain, Schwake returned to the U.S. with Nashville and has looked incredible so far this MLS season. If he continues at this rate, he just may find himself on the plane in 2030.

Defenders

4. Sergiño Dest
Dest was one of many players who had a rough match against Belgium. Still, he is by far the USMNT’s most dynamic player in 1-on-1 situations, and will most likely remain on the roster in 2030 (whether he is a “defender” or not).

5. Chris Richards
Richards is the easiest pick of the lot when it comes to the back line. Currently only 26, Richards will be 30 in 2030, and without Tim Ream, he is positioned to become the USMNT’s leader at the back.

6. Antonee Robinson
Currently one of the USMNT’s highest profile players, Robinson is coming off an injury-riddled year at Fulham after being named the U.S. Soccer Men’s Player of the Year in 2025. Robinson is a bit more of a question mark for 2030 than it might seem. With his athleticism serving a significant role in his game, Robinson will be 32 in 2030, and it is to be determined if he can stay healthy for the next four years. Still, Robinson is a quality player at left back and it remains his spot to lose in the starting eleven.

7. Auston Trusty
Media, Pennsylvania’s own! After scoring at the 2026 World Cup against Türkiye, Trusty made an impact in limited opportunities both during the tournament and in the buildup, including a phenomenal performance in 2025 against Uruguay. With Tim Ream aging out of the team, Trusty’s athleticism and passing ability as a left-footed center back makes him a strong candidate for the starting eleven in 2030. Even if he’s not a starter, it is expected that Trusty still makes the roster in some capacity.

8. Alex Freeman
Freeman was one of the highlights of the USMNT’s 2026 World Cup campaign. Despite not having the star quality and name recognition of some of the other names on the roster, Freeman’s positional flexibility and defensive capabilities at right back were crucial in Mauricio
Pochettino’s tactical setup. While it remains to be seen if Pochettino returns, Freeman is a very capable defender at only 21 years old. He will most likely be on the plane.

9. Mark McKenzie
McKenzie didn’t put his best foot forward against Türkiye, but he is still only 27 years of age and earning consistent playing time in France. His game will continue to improve, and at a notoriously thin center back position in the roster, he has a great shot at returning to the World
Cup.

10. Reed Baker-Whiting
Currently only 21 years old, Baker-Whiting has yet to be capped by the USMNT. After joining Nashville SC from Seattle Sounders recently, Baker-Whiting has found an opportunity for more minutes under B.J. Callaghan. A ball-playing defender that can play on both sides of a back four, Baker-Whiting’s passing ability and versatility makes him a strong candidate for 2030. With his most important developmental years ahead of him, it will be exciting to see if he takes the leap.

11. Noahkai Banks
Banks is the wildcard of the 2030 World Cup roster. Still deciding between USMNT and Germany, Banks has 31 Bundesliga appearances to his name at only 19 years old. He was called up to the national team previously but never appeared in a match and remains uncapped. Given
the current roster’s weakness at center back, the federation will surely be in pursuit of Banks.
Should he choose to represent USMNT, expect to see him on rosters sooner rather than later.

Midfielders

12. Tyler Adams
This one needs no explanation. The vocal leader of the team, Adams will surely still be around in 2030 (provided he stays healthy). Adams will be 31 come the next World Cup, and will likely maintain a roster spot despite competition in the defensive midfielder role.

13. Weston McKennie
Nobody really knows what McKennie’s best position is these days. It doesn’t matter — Wes will be on the plane. Similar to Adams, McKennie will be 31 in 2030. His versatility and durability throughout his career almost guarantees him a roster spot in four years.

14. Malik Tillman
Tillman may have been USMNT’s most valuable player at the 2026 World Cup. Playing as an attacking midfielder or dropping deeper next to Adams, Tillman has a bit of creativity and ingenuity with the ball that USMNT desperately lacks elsewhere. In the last two years, he has
jumped from a “B-Team” player at the Gold Cup to one of the focal points of the team and a fan favorite. Tillman will be 28 years old in 2030.

15. Cavan Sullivan
Here’s where the fun starts. People in touch with USMNT will be familiar with Sullivan and the flair he brings both on and off the field. Sullivan is already a star, but the next four years are difficult to predict. His club future complicates things, given he has pre-planned a move to Manchester City at 18 years old where playing time will be difficult to earn. Still only 16, there is plenty of time for growth. He has stepped it up a notch in recent performances for the Union, and it seems to be only a matter of time until he fully breaks out.

16. Adri Mehmeti
Mehmeti makes the second ’09 on the roster after Sullivan. Opening the 2026 MLS season with impressive performances for New York Red Bulls under Michael Bradley, Mehmeti’s stock has gone up drastically so far this year. Controlling the tempo of matches as a deep-lying midfielder, Mehmeti possesses great talent on the ball but also plays a role that the USMNT are lacking. Mehmeti will be only 21 when the 2030 World Cup kicks off.

17. Tanner Tessmann
Tessmann was injured in the buildup to the World Cup. While Pochettino claimed injury was not the reason for Tessmann’s omission, it is impossible to know for sure if Tessmann’s fitness actually affected the roster decision. Nonetheless, Tessmann is only 24 and starts consistently in midfield for Lyon. The sky is the limit for him.

18. Aidan Morris
Morris, like Tessmann, was omitted after a rough performance in the March window. USMNT could have used a player like Morris against Belgium, when the team had issued progressing the ball from defense to attack through the midfield. Morris is the type of player that could take some of the burden off of Adams in that department. Still only 24 years old, Morris will be 28 in 2030 and is a strong contender to make the next World Cup roster.

19. Johnny Cardoso
Johnny missed the World Cup after he underwent surgery for a sprained ankle. Even before the surgery, it was still a question whether he would make the roster or not. Johnny has had some rough performances for USMNT, including a friendly against Türkiye in 2025, in which he has been unable to replicate his club form for the national team. Still, Cardoso is too good of a player to give up on. USMNT should continue to give him chances to figure it out until 2030, when he will be 28 years old.

20. Diego Luna
Diego Luna was one of the shocks of the 2026 World Cup roster. Despite being included in much of the promotional material leading up to the tournament, he was not selected on the final roster. Still, Luna is only 22, and he is the type of guy to let something like this fuel him. Luna should rebound, and hopefully most of his national team career is still ahead of him.

Attackers

21. Christian Pulisic
Pulisic’s performance, or lack thereof, against Belgium will surely have left a bad taste in the mouths of USMNT fans. Still, Pulisic is one of the team’s best players and will be a lock for 2030 if healthy. His health remains a concern though, and Pulisic will be 31 by the time the 2030 World Cup rolls around.

22. Folarin Balogun
The suspension controversy overshadowed an otherwise brilliant 2026 World Cup for Balogun, who has fully staked his claim has the USMNT’s starting center forward for the foreseeable future. Having recently turned 25, Balogun will only be 28 when the next World Cup starts, when he will look to lead the line for the second time on the global stage.

23. Ricardo Pepi
Pepi didn’t really shine in limited minutes at the World Cup, but anyone who watched the USMNT’s friendly against Senegal this year knows that Pepi is a quality player. Excellent in the air and in hold-up play, his style is complementary to Balogun, providing for perfect depth off the bench. Pepi is still just 23 years old, with plenty of time to improve his game before 2030.

24. Patrick Agyemang
Agyemang looked destined to land on the USMNT roster as a third striker behind Balogun and Pepi but suffered an Achilles injury before the tournament. It will be an uphill battle for “Big Pat” to rebound, but he brings a certain physicality at the striker position that nobody else in the player pool possesses. He will be 29 at the next World Cup and has more than enough time to rebound and get his career back on track.

25. Zavier Gozo
Gozo has been the breakout star of this MLS season. Utilized as a winger or a wing-back, Gozo has turned into a gunman, scoring 6 goals in 14 matches so far in 2026 with 4 assists to go along with it. As Tim Weah has developed into a defender, USMNT has been lacking a dynamic wide attacker with the ability to finish from anywhere, and Gozo might fill that role best. Currently just 19 years old, Gozo will be 23 in 2030, and he has a great shot to make the roster.

26. Mathis Albert
Given Albert’s lack of senior experience, this one is a bit of a wild card. Typically playing down the left wing, Albert’s pace, power, and finishing could offer a complementary look to Pulisic’s traits. Similar to a young Pulisic, Albert is currently breaking through at Borussia Dortmund and will be 21 years old in 2030. It’s hard to tell when Albert will start to earn regular senior minutes, but the potential is there.
