Philadelphia Union practicing with drones
Never ones to shy from trying new ideas, the Philadelphia Union are using drone technology to find innovative ways to look at practice.
According to the Philadelphia Union’s Instagram, the Union have started taking practice film using drones to get a good view of their training sessions. In the video posted earlier, the Union look to be focusing on working the ball down the sideline and getting a ball into the middle for a back-heel to the open side, leading to a shot. Personally, I find it nice just to see shots being taken by players instead of an attempt of dribbling into the goal. The caption of the video read that the drones are for both offensive and defensive movement towards goal, however there is no video evidence that was posted of any transitional play. The team has in the past used other technology, such as Sportstec, Opta, and iPads equipped with TeamXstream. The Union provided the team with the previous technology, so it is safe to assume that the new drone technology was also bought by the club and was not paid for by MLS for all teams.
