Temple forward named to preseason All-Conference team
Jorge Gomez Sanchez scored 13 goals and added 5 assists for the Owls last season
Temple senior midfielder/forward Jorge Gomez Sanchez has been named to the American Athletic Conference preseason All-Conference Team.
The second-year player took college soccer by storm last season after transferring to Temple from the European University of Madrid, chipping in 13 goals and 5 assists to earn second team all-conference honors.
The Talavera De La Reina, Spain native played club soccer for UD Talavera and the Osasuna youth team at the U18 level before landing in Philadelphia.
His 13 goals last season tied him for fifth in a single season in program history.
The 13-player preseason All-Conference team also includes four players from SMU (Mauro Cichero, Michael Nelson, Jordan Cano and Jared Rice), four from UConn (Jake Nerwinski, Simen Olafsen, Kwame Awuah and Abdou Mbacke Thiam), two from South Florida (Lindo Mfeka and Nazeem Bartman) and one from Memphis (Raul Gonzalez).
Cichero was named preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Nerwinski Defensive Player of the Year and Nelson Goalkeeper of the Year.
As a team, Temple was picked to finish fifth in the eight-team conference. SMU was picked to finish first.
