The North American Soccer Reporters liked Sapong’s hat trick almost as much as we did.

Following his first career hat-trick, Philadelphia Union striker CJ Sapong has been named this week’s NASR (North American Soccer Reporters) player of the week.

CJ’s hat-trick helped the Union pull out their first win of the 2017 MLS season, as well as ending their 252 day winless streak dating back to August of 2016. CJ now joins the ranks of Sebastian Le Toux and Roland Alberg as the only players in the Union’s eight year history to score a hat-trick, and his eleven minute hat-trick has him tied with Zack Schilawski for eighth fastest hat-trick in MLS history. His goals this week have put him level with Houston Dynamo striker Erik Torres in the golden boot race, with each man tallying seven goals so far this season.

This is the first time in his career that CJ has received this award, and we hope that it will not be his last. Congratulations to CJ Sapong on earning player of the week!
