Keegan Rosenberry suspended for Sunday’s game for social media conduct
The second-year player asked for caption help in a tweet he posted 90 minutes before the Union’s game against Chicago Fire
Keegan Rosenberry’s disappointing sophomore season will end with him unavailable for selection against Orlando City on Sunday.
Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin said Thursday during his weekly press conference that the 23-year-old defender will be suspended for the team’s season finale because of inappropriate conduct on social media.
This after Rosenberry tweeted out a photo of himself sitting on the bench with a request for caption help 90 minutes before the start of the Union’s game in Bridgeview, Illinois against the Chicago Fire last Sunday. Rosenberry was an unused sub in the game while Richie Marquez, who was also pictured in the tweet, started the match.
The tweet has since been deleted.
Rosenberry had a Rookie of the Year caliber season in 2016 after being drafted third overall out of Georgetown University, but the Lancaster County native has struggled to find the same consistency this season with just 14 appearances and 11 starts.
Veteran defender Ray Gaddis has started the other 22 games this season at right back with a string of 20 consecutive starts from April 22 to August 23 after Rosenberry started six games to open the season.
Rosenberry will also not be available for selection for Bethlehem Steel FC’s playoff game in Louisville on Friday since he did not play in the minimum five games required for a player loaned from MLS to make it onto the playoff roster. Rosenberry made one start for Steel this season in June.
