Report: David Accam traded to Union
Paul Tenorio reports that Accam is coming to Chester for more than $1 million in allocation money
The Philadelphia Union back line may not have nightmares of David Accam to worry about anymore, according to a report by Paul Tenorio.
According to Tenorio, the speedy 27-year-old striker is going to the blue and gold in exchange for more than $1 million in general allocation money and targeted allocation money, otherwise known by the cringe-worthy acronyms GAM and TAM.
The Ghanan has 33 goals in 78 appearances for the Chicago Fire since 2015 and has a goal and an assist in three games against the Union. He had 14 goals and eight assists in 2017. His contract, however, will expire at the end of this season.
Like Josh Yaro, Accam came through the Right to Dream Academy in his native Ghana and played in England and Sweden before joining the Fire.
The Union came into today’s SuperDraft without any draft picks in the first two rounds, but this bombshell tops anything that could have happened draftwise at the Pennsylvania Convention Center today.
Accam is an MLS proven quality attacker, who along with Fafa Picault will give plenty of fits to opposing defenses. He also will not occupy an international roster spot. His guaranteed compensation in 2017 was $820,937.50, according to salary figures released in September.
What do you think? Was it worth waiting through weeks of no news on player acquisitions for this?
