The Philadelphia Union have acquired forward Sam Adeniran from St. Louis City SC, the team announced Thursday. Adeniran became the Union’s first transfer signing of the summer.

The Union paid St. Louis $150k in GAM for Adeniran, though that number could peak at $450k if performance incentives are met over the net two years.

Sam is a domestic player who is eligible to start with club and be a reinforcement to our striker unit effective immediately,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner said in a statement. “He’s a strong player whose physical presence has shown to be effective up top, and we look forward to integrating him with the team quickly.”

Adineran, 25, has scored 10 goals in 35 appearances and 15 starts for St. Louis. The 6’4″, 201-pound Texan has previously spent time with the Tacoma Defiance of MLS Next PRO, the Seattle Sounders, Leganés B, Guadalajara, Castellón, Kickers Emden and Atlas Delmenhorst.

Adineran’s role with the Union isn’t immediately clear. The Union already have two starting-caliber forwards in Mikeal Uhre and Tai Baribo, though there is some deficit of depth at the position. The Union have scored 42 goals in 2024, which is among the better totals in Major League Soccer.
