With The 23rd Pick In The 2011 MLS SuperDraft, The Philadelphia Union Select Michael Farfan

This time around, the Philadelphia Union didn't stray too far from what pundits and experts discussed as a need for the team.

Michael Farfan, a midfielder out of the University of North Carolina, was the Union's second selection of the day. In using the 23rd overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, the Union took a First Team All-American and Hermann Trophy Semifinalist. The 5'9" Farfan sees himself playing either on the wing or in the center of the midfield.

When asked about his positional strengths Farfan said, "I'm more of an attacking midfielder, more from the center than from right behind the forwards."

In 2010 UNC was noted for having many players on its squad that were highly versatile in their ability to play multiple positions. Farfan, though he favors playing either on the flank or in the center of attack, is able to play in the center of the midfield, too.

Two years with UNC (he transfered from California-Fulerton in 2007) brought 10 goals and 7 assists in 41 games started. He will turn 23 during the upcoming season.
