Game Thread: Philadelphia Union 2 vs New England Revolution 1, Final

Fontana earns a brace when he scored in stoppage time to grab 3 points for the U

96’- Whistle blown. Game ends at 9:31.

90+6’ – Union on the attack Kacper sends it over to Fontana who tries for the hat trick but it is saved.

90+5’ – Corner kick for the union falls into the front of the net. Revs clean it out to a waiting Fontana who drills is from the top of the box earns his brace. Union 2-1.

90+3’ – McKenzie gets beat and is called for a cheap foul, Revs have a free kick and the shot goes high above the crossbar.

90+1’ – There will be 5 Minutes of stoppage time.
Union bring on Jack de Vries for Martinez.

90’ – McKenzie is now in the Ref’s book.

87’ – Union really showing how tired they are. Half the team basically is sitting behind the ball.

86’- Play resumes

84’ – Kessler goes down after getting hit in the head. Play is stopped as the trainers come out to check on him.

81’ – Revs go right down the field, Union’s backline really leaves it open for Tajon Buchanan to score his first MLS goal. Game leveled 1-1

80’ – Another corrner for the Revs after a shot goes out converts to a missed chance by the Revolution.

76’ – More attack subs coming on for the Revs. Gustavo Bou and Lee Nguyen (first Rev appearance since leaving in 2018) replace Teal Bunbury and Kelyn Rowe.

73’ – GOOALLL. Aaronson drives into the box sends it across and Fontana draws the keeper and chips it over him. Union up 1-0

69’ – Rev earn a corner kick from the right side of the net. Rowe crosses it to the front post but is cleared by Glesnes.

67’ – Revolution substitutions Fagundez and Buchanan are coming onto the field replacing Penilla and McNamara. Both are attacking options, so this is an intresting move by Bruce.

65’ – After not calling these spikes on the boot all night, Fontana earns a Yellow card for stepping on McNamara’s boot.

64’ – Union making a double substitution. Anthony Fontana and Matt Real come on to replace Wooten and Mbaizo

60’ – Free kick from just outside the penalty area. Ball is headed out by the Revs.

58’ – Great cross from Bedoya to Kacper Przybylko, who misses his close shot.

57’ – Bad challenge by Matt Polster, ends up fouling Martínez and earns a Yellow Card from the Ref. Which is his SECOND of the night. Revs playing 30+ minutes with only 10 men.

50’ – Union enters the ref’s book for the third time tonight. Bedoya earns a Yellow card from his foul on Alexander Büttner.

46’ – Second Half is underway, 8:40.

44’ – Martinez goes back on the ground for something.

43’ – Martinez is waived back on by the ref.

42’ – Play is stopped as Martínez is still on the ground after blocking a ball with a part of the body noone should ever use.

41’ – Rowe trying to get to fancy as Blake stretches out to stop it but doesn’t get a hand on it. The ball rolls out of play.

40’ – Wooten with plenty of space and numbers in the box, lobs it in and nothing comes from that chance.

39’ – Corner ends up to nothing.

38’ – Rowe closes the gab to block Aaronson’s shot, which ends up as a corner.

36’ – Gaddis has now entered the book on a Yellow card.

30’ – A bouncing ball ends up to be a corner for the U. Ball is cleared but Gaddis is on the end of it. Ray chips it into the box and Glesnes’ head is on the end of it. The header goes wide of the net.

28’ – Lots of blue shirts together at the top of the box. Wooten tries to get it over to Bedoya but it goes behind him.

27’ – Seems like this game is going to be called like a neighborhood pickup game. Plenty of fouls not getting called for either side.

25’ – Bend it like Kacper with a shot that goes wide. However, it would not have counted if he went in as he was called offsides.

23’ – Bedoya goes down on what was clearly a foul… but was missed by the ref.

22’ – Nice setup for Bedoya, who takes a shot but it is an easy save.

20’ – José Martínez enters the ref’s book with a yellow. Ends his streak of good-games and will be suspended for the next match.

17’ – Weird scripted spot for Dave and Tommy to talk about MLS Next.

16’ – Rev’s Buksa flagged for offsides, so the U get a free kick.

13’ – Aaronson does a 360 in a tight space, but ends up giving it away.

8’ – There was also a Yellow Card issues to Rev’s Henry Kessler.

8’ – Union earn their first corner of the game, which ammounts to nothing.

7’ – Revs turning on the pressure on the U.

5’ – New England has its first free kick after Penilla was fouled. Revs send it straight into the box, but it ends up to be a goal kick for the U after a handball was called.

2’ – Wooten’s shot goes wide to the left of the net.

1’ – Game is underway. Kickoff was at 7:38 PM
