With the Champions League play on pause, the Philadelphia Union now need to focus on trying to get themselves back into the tournament next year. To do this they need to start winning league games and performing against other MLS teams. Up until Saturday afternoon, we were not seeing the best side of the boys in blue in league play.

Finally, at the 51st minute Cory Burke extinguished the fires hope of netting the first goal. This was his 15th career goal and a third of them have been against the Fire. It was a nice cap for the Jamaican striker who had a pretty decent afternoon. Going back to the first half, where he was on the end of a nice cross from Olivier Mbaizo in the 14th minute. However, Burke’s header was stopped by Chicago’s goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

Speaking of goalkeepers, Andre Blake had another great day in net. The 8-year vet secured his 40th career clean sheet, with a key impressive stop near the end of the match. The stop saw him needing to stretch at the near post. This isn’t the only celebration for the Union goalkeeper; barring an injury, when he takes the field Wednesday night against New England it will be his 150th career game, all of them with the Union.

It was a nice change to see the U finally focused on league play and it showed from Jim Curtin’s lineup to the performances on the field. Hopefully, we will see some strong performances over the next few weeks as the boys in blue have a difficult task of 4 games in 19 days.

Well you have read my feelings about the game, now it is time for you to decide in our Community Players Ratings Poll for the win against the Chicago Fire.
