Greg Oldfield receives United Soccer Coaches media award for MLS Cup article

Brotherly Game writer Greg Oldfield was one of the recipients of the 2022 United Soccer Coaches media awards. Oldfield received the award for his column “A Philadelphia Soccer Hollywood Story” about the MLS Cup final he attended in person in Los Angeles in November.

Oldfield was one of five writers recognized. He joins Jonathan Abraham as Brotherly Game writers who have been recognized by the association. Abraham received the student award in 2020 for a piece on Carli Lloyd.

Student: Matthew Press, Indiana University; “‘We hate losing to each other’: Indiana men’s soccer sophomore duo thrives off competition”

The United Soccer Coaches Media Contest annually recognizes writers and reporters with work published in a newspaper (daily or weekly), magazine, website, television broadcast, or blog covering soccer. Freelance writers published in newspapers, magazines or as special features can also submit published articles.

He's covered soccer at all levels for many years in the Philadelphia region and has also written for TheCup.us, NPSL, PrepSoccer and other publications.
