West Chester United to host Loudoun United in U.S. Open Cup

West Chester United will host a first round match of the U.S. Open Cup for the third straight year with Loudoun United coming to town to play at YSC Sports on March 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Loudoun United had a disappointing 2024 campaign, finishing 11th in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings but they will be West Chester’s first USL Championship opponent in the Open Cup since they visited Birmingham Legion in the second round of the 2019 cup. After the 2020 and 2021 editions of the oldest competition in U.S. soccer were postponed, West Chester returned to the competition in 2022 and were knocked out on the road at FC Motown after a replay of a match they won. They lost at home to Ocean City Nor’easters in 2023 and to Maryland Bobcats back at YSC Sports again in 2024.
West Chester United is one of only two local teams in the competition this year. The Philadelphia Union will host a Round of 32 match in May. West Chester would need to beat Loudoun United and pull off two more upsets to set up a match-up with the Union.
They last advanced in the Open Cup in 2019, winning a penalty shootout in Baltimore over Christos FC.
