Frankie Westfield signed to first team contract with Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia native Frankie Westfield is officially a member of the Philadelphia Union with the announcement of a first team contract that will keep him with the club through 2028 with a club option for 2029.
Westfield, 18, is the second homegrown announcement this week following Neil Pierre’s. The Northeast Philly native becomes the club’s 27th homegrown signing.
“Frankie is a talented and versatile young defender,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner said in a news release. “His ability to use both feet effectively allows him to impact the game on both sides of the field, and his role as Union II’s vice-captain last season makes us confident in his maturity and leadership potential on and off the field. We’re excited to see the contribution he’ll bring to the first team.”
Westfield, who was a co-captain of the Philadelphia Union II as an amateur, was days away from leaving for Penn State last summer when he was signed to an MLS Next Pro deal for the remainder of the season. A former Philadelphia Soccer Club standout, Westfield joined the academy in 2021 and steadily rose the ranks making the most of his opportunities to play in MLS Next Pro and make a name for himself, especially last season when he showed his versatility also playing as a left back.
He received his first call-up to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s Youth National Team for a training camp in Chile in October 2024, where he made two appearances (one start) against Chile’s U20 team.
Westfield’s signing brings the team’s roster to 28 players out of 30 available slots. A 31st roster spot is available to a player who is on a season-long loan to a lower division club.
