Three city youth clubs uniting to form Philadelphia Inter FC

Fairmount Soccer Association, Philadelphia City FC and United Philly Soccer Club are uniting to form Philadelphia International Football Club (Inter-Philly), the clubs announced earlier this week.

“With our legacy clubs, this union will bring the best of each club into one to become the preeminent club in Philadelphia,” a letter announcing the move states. “Inter-Philly will be uniquely poised to work to grow the game of soccer in the City of Brotherly Love. This collaboration aims to create a stronger, more vibrant, and supportive community for our young athletes, while enhancing the quality of our programs and providing greater opportunities for players, coaches, and families.”

The three clubs have provided soccer-playing opportunities to the youth of Philadelphia for many years. Fairmount, founded in 1995, is the oldest of the three, followed by Philadelphia City FC – formerly known as Palumbo Soccer Club and United Philly Soccer, which was formed eight years ago.

Benefits of the merger cited in the letter include: expanded competition, enhanced facilities and stronger recreational programs.
