Senior leadership and scrappy play led Harriton to a 2-1 win at Haverford High School on Tuesday night in a Central League battle of unbeaten boys soccer teams.

Che Rowe scored twice for the visitors and Denis Sokollu added a late goal just before the full time whistle blew. For Haverford, Tuesday’s match came a night after they played Conestoga to a 1-1 draw on the road to improve to 5-0-1. Seamus Lannon scored a goal in the game at Conestoga and was a constant threat down the left flank but Harriton’s defense stood the test through much of the game.

“We have a lot of seniors and great senior leadership led by our captains,” Harriton head coach Jeff Rhodes said. “Bend not break was the attitude but we were able to calm down, get back to it and finish strong.”

Rowe’s two goals sparked a crowd of students who made the trip and were chanting “Che Rowe” to the tune of the familiar “Ole! Ole! Ole!” chant. Rowe’s first goal was set up by a strong run and from senior Noah Duffy, who sent a ball across the face of goal that was initially save and cleaned up by Rowe. His second goal came on a strong finish at the back poster after the ball trickled toward goal from a failed clearance in the back.

“I think it was all effort,” Duffy said. “I think they probably won the possession battle over all but we worked really hard, we were in on every 50 and we were coming through on tackles and everybody put a shift in.”
