For the second year in a row, Dickinson is the lone program from the area still standing in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III men’s and women’s tournaments.

Saul Iwowo scored off a corner kick in the 25th minute and the Red Devils defense held off the hosts the rest of the way to book a quarterfinal match-up today with Emory, who knocked off Rowan 2-0 in Saturday’s other Sweet 16 match at Shellenberger Field in Lynchburg.

Dickinson (16-0-7) and Emory (16-1-3) meet this afternoon at 3 p.m. The match will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

Messiah men kicked off the day for area teams in the tournament, taking an early 1-0 lead on No. 1 Tufts on a 5th minute goal from Kyle Spodnik but the Jumbos found an equalizer 15 minutes later and added three more goals to complete a convincing 4-1 win over the Falcons.

Messiah women were back in Grantham hosting No. 1 WashU and took the defending national champions to overtime only to concede a 98th minute goal to Madi Foley. Messiah finished the season 22-3.

Penn State Harrisburg women were down 2-0 to Mary Washington when senior captain Abigail Frew headed home a long free kick from Ciera Frick with 15 minutes to play but were unable to find an equalizer in the closing minutes. The loss ended a historic season for the program, which picked up its first two NCAA tournament wins to make it to the Sweet 16.

Swarthmore a heartbreaking end to their season in a penalty shootout loss to Carleton College after a 1-1 deadlock through 110 minutes. The Garnet opened the scoring on a goal from Sydney Ross in the 6th minute but Ashlyn Haigh leveled the score at the half hour mark and gave Carleton an early lead in the shootout they did not relinquish. Avery Trapp saved two Garnet kicks and converted one of her own to win the shootout 4-2.
