BJ Callaghan gets contract extension with Nashville SC
Former Philadelphia Union assistant BJ Callaghan is getting a contract extension as the head coach of Nashville SC.
The Ventnor, N.J. native and Ursinus College grad has had his contract extended through the 2028-2029 season after a successful first full season with Nashville.
“B.J. has had a tremendous impact on our group’s success, and his extension is well-deserved,” said Nashville SC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs in a news release.
Callaghan’s journey to MLS head coach is an inspiring one. He started coaching at his alma mater Ursinus and had multiple local coaching gigs before becoming an assistant at Villanova and later a coach in the Union Academy. He joined Jim Curtin’s technical staff in 2014 and was his top assistant before taking a job with the U.S. Men’s National Team. He had a stint as interim USMNT manager in 2023 and took the Nashville job in July 2024.
“I am grateful for the trust that John Ingram, Ian Ayre and Mike Jacobs, the players and the staff have shown in me,” said Callaghan in a news release. “What matters most is the work we’re doing every day — building a strong culture, developing players and creating a team that our supporters, the city of Nashville and the state of Tennessee can identify with and believe in, and I’m excited to keep pushing this project forward together.”
