The NWSL kicked off this weekend to fill out the soccer schedule and while there are limited local ties to the professional women’s league, Brittany Ratcliffe made sure to announce herself to her new team with a game-winning goal for Seattle Reign.
Former Philadelphia Union homegrown David Vazquez had himself a night to lead San Diego FC to a wild 3-2 win over Toluca in Champions Cup and Chris Donovan introduced himself to the home fans with a goal and an assist in his first start for Louisville City.
Tai Baribo also scored again for DC United, bagging a late winner to lift them over Chicago Fire but the match was also marred by a slur aimed at the Israeli international.
MLS
David Vazquez (Philadelphia Union) started, played 61 minutes and had a brace to lead San Diego FC to a 3-2 win over Toluca in Concacaf Champions Cup play. San Diego held on despite going down to 9 men after a second red card in the 86th minute. Anisse Saidi (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia Union Academy), CJ dos Santos (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia Union Academy) and Pablo Sisniega (Shipley School) were all in the team but did not feature in the match. Vazquez started and played 58 minutes for San Diego in their 3-3 draw in MLS play. Sisniega started the match and made five saves.
Daniel Gazdag (Philadelphia Union) did not feature for Columbus Crew in their 1-0 loss to Nashville. Daniel Lovitz (Wyndmoor, Pa.) started and played 90 minutes for Nashville.
Brandan Craig (Philadelphia, Pa.) was not in the team for CF Montreal in their 2-1 loss to Orlando City.
Matt Freese (Wayne, Pa.) made one save in NYCFC’s 3-1 win over Colorado Rapids. Paxten Aaronson (Medford, N.J.) started and played 90 minutes and Keegan Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa.) logged 82 minutes for the Rapids.
Tai Baribo (Philadelphia Union) scored the game-winning goal from the spot for DC United in a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire. Jack Elliott (Philadelphia Union) played 62 minutes for the Fire.
Jack McGlynn (Philadelphia Union) played 90 minutes for the Houston Dynamo and was credited with two assists, including a primary assist on the game-winning goal in the 15th minute of stoppage time. Kamal Miller (Reading United) started and played 90 minutes for the Portland Timbers.
Jakob Glesnes (Philadelphia Union) did not feature for LA Galaxy in their 2-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City.
Alvas Powell (Philadelphia Union) played 8 minutes off the bench for FC Cincinnati in their 6-1 loss to New England Revolution. Andrei Chirilă (Allentown, Pa. / Philadelphia Union Academy) started and played 90 minutes on a short-term loan.
Jack Skahan (Philadelphia Union Academy) played 13 minutes off the bench and Paul Marie (Reading United) logged one minute in San Jose’s 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders.

Brittany Ratcliffe (Williamstown, N.J.) scored a GOAL five minutes after subbing into the game in her Seattle Reign debut. The 83rd minute strike held up as the game-winner in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pride.

Phoebe McClernon (West Chester, Pa.) started, played 90 minutes for the Seattle Reign in the match and made the NWSL Team of the Week.
Riley Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) started and played 90 minutes for Angel City FC in their 4-0 win over Chicago Stars.
Abby Dahlkemper (born in Lancaster, Pa.) was not in the team for Bay FC’s 2-1 win over Denver Summit.

Chris Donovan (Paoli, Pa. / Philadelphia Union) had a goal and an assist in 90 minutes and Aiden McFadden (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester United) had his second goal of the season in 86 minutes of play in a 4-1 win for Louisville City over Miami FC. Kris Shakes (Philadephia Union Academy) made four saves in goal for New Mexico United in a 2-1 loss to Oakland Roots.
