Week 24 Philadelphia Union MVP

While it wasn’t a good performance by the Union as a team, there were some individuals who had decent games against Toronto FC.

The Philadelphia Union weren’t at their best in the match against Toronto FC, allowing three goals and looking lost for most of the match – first on defense in the first half and then on offense during the second half. But there were a few players that had decent – if not good – showings. So who was the MVP? I polled the staff at Brotherly Game and here’s what they said:

Nick Youngstein: Tranquillo Barnetta. Great spirit all night, and served the assist from that free kick.

Alex Klein: Barnetta. His free kick to set up the goal was really nice and that ended up being the only bright spot from tonight.

Colin Campbell: Fabinho, he was the only one who looked like he cared about the game in the 90th minute and made some really big stops all night.

Barry Evans: I’m struggling to really think of someone. I'd rule Barnetta out of this one for his constant chatting back to the referee that eventually got him booked and may have turned the ref against us even. While it's good to be passionate, being too passionate isn't going to help. As much as Toronto FC were getting away with things because of star players, Michael Bradley managed to calm the situation with Jozy Altidore, meaning no yellow whereas Barnetta would have made that situation worse If a Philadelphia Union player was in trouble. If I had to pick it may have been one of the full backs, so I'll go with Keegan Rosenberry who had an involved first half going forward and made a great interception and run that nearly turned into a goal.

Jared Young: I'll give it to Barnetta. He has the most urgency pushing forward and was central the few times the Union created chances.

John Rossi: I'd say Barnetta. His set-piece service was great all night, but most notably on the free kick where the Union scored their only goal.

Matt Ralph: I'm going with convention and saying Barnetta as well.

Barnetta has been the lone bright spot many times in what has proven to be a tough stretch for the Union, and Saturday against Toronto was no exception. Congratulations to Tranquillo Barnetta on being the Brotherly Game Week 24 Philadelphia Union MVP!
