Temple falls to Columbia in overtime

Owls shutout streak ends in double overtime loss

After 500 minutes of shutting out opponents, the Owls defense conceded a free kick goal at the worst possible time in a double overtime loss to Columbia on the road Tuesday night.

Kynan Rocks scored on a left-footed strike in the 95th minute to sink the Owls and end goalkeeper Alex Cagle’s four-game shutout streak. Cagle made three saves while his counterpart Dylan Castanheira made five stops to record the clean sheet.

Temple (8-4-1) outshot the hosts 11-5 overall but were unable to find the back of the net, something that has plagued them now in all four of their losses and their one draw.

Jorge Gomez Sanchez led the team with four shots while freshman Albert Moreno registered two shots for the Owls, which resume their American Athletic Association schedule in Cincinnati on Saturday.

Princeton 4 Rutgers 1

Princeton scored three times in the first half to add to Rutgers’ woes this season with a 4-1 win on Tuesday.

Sean Mcsherry, Vikram Polthuri and Harry Hefferman put the Tigers (6-4-1) up for good in the first half and Greg Seifert added another goal in the 80th minute after Dante Perez had pulled one back for the Scarlet Knights in the 55th minute.

Rutgers, an NCAA tournament team last year, fell to 0-9-2 with the loss.
