Season Review: Sebastien Le Toux and Charlie Davies

The Union once again said goodbye to a club legend and hello to a former US Men's National Team member

Sebastien Le Toux:

Le Toux had a pretty standard year for him all things considered. He appeared in 21 games with the Union this year, starting 13 of them, including 11 straight from April to June. He logged over 1200 minutes and was able to contribute to the cause with two goals and five assists while with the team. Those two goals came early in the season with his first coming against a 3-0 win against New England in March, his second goal was the lone strike for the Union when they visited Seattle in April, a 2-1 loss. He eventually transitioned into more of an impact sub role as Roland Alberg would replace him in the starting lineup on the wing opposite Chris Pontius in late June. With the Union transfer window moves and the emergence of Fabian Herbers, Le Toux was seen as expendable and he was traded to the Colorado Rapids on August 3 of this year. The Union acquired General Allocation Money in exchange for him. Le Toux is still kicking with the Colorado Rapids, as he has helped them advance to the Western Conference Semifinals.

Season Grade: B-

As stated above, Le Toux had a fine season with the Union. He stepped in to start when needed, and was mostly used as a second half offensive sub when the Union required some more fire power. This could be the year Le Toux finally captures the MLS Cup – and who knows, maybe we could see him in a Union shirt once again before he hangs up the boots.

Charlie Davies:

If you have no recollection of Charlie Davies actually suiting up for the Union this year, don’t worry – you won’t be the only one. Acquired late in the Summer transfer window in a trade with the New England Revolution, Davies was only able to find the field with the Union eight times. Davies only managed one shot on goal in all of his appearances, which all came off the bench. He was able to get on the score sheet though, as he recorded an assist for the Union in their 4-0 thrashing of his old team on August 13th. Charlie’s contract expires at the end of the season, but he is currently in discussion with Union management in hopes that he returns to the team for 2017. As of publication, no decision has been made on his future with the team.

Season Grade: Incomplete

Davies played very sparingly for the Union, so I feel grading him would be a bit unfair. Perhaps if he re-signs with the Union we can grade him fairly next season.
