Bruce Arena named USMNT manager
The most successful Men’s National Team coach will take the helm again.
That didn’t take long. Bruce Arena, who previously coached D.C. United, The USMNT, New York Red Bulls, and LA Galaxy has been named as the replacement for Jurgen Klinsmann after a pair of disastrous showings against Mexico and Costa Rica saw the USMNT position open up. Arena is undoubtedly one of the best coaches (maybe even the best in all honesty) in the United States, and his first tenure with the Yanks speaks to that. Arena is a very solid 75-28-27 from his first tenure from 1998-2006, which also saw the MNT make the ‘02 and ‘06 World Cups, as well as winning the Gold Cup in ‘02 and ‘05. Bruce also holds records for most matches as USMNT manager, most wins and most World Cup appearances.
Arena’s hire should lead to a fair bit of shake up in the National Team scene, and hopefully for more of the same results that we’ve become used to in the last four or so years from the National Team.
Do you think Arena was the right choice? Will we finally stop having to hear the National Team manager blame the player pool? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments.
