Philadelphia Union Academy midfielder/defender commits to Duke University

Philadelphia Union Academy midfielder/defender Seth Kuhn will be heading south to play college soccer in 2018.

The 16-year-old from Wyomissing, Pa. announced his verbal commitment to Duke University on Twitter last week.

Kuhn, who joined the Academy from PA Classics in 2015, made 20 appearances for the U16s last season and scored a goal. He has a goal in 12 appearances and eight starts for the U16s this year in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play. He also has a goal off of a free kick against Atlanta United in Generation adidas Cup play.

Though primarily a left winger, Kuhn has also played left back. He’s an intelligent passer, has good field vision and is deadly on set pieces. Kuhn is the first to commit to a college out of the current U16 team. Eleven players on the U18 team have committed to play college next fall.

His older brother, Austin Kuhn, currently plays at the University of Pennsylvania and was on the Union Academy 2012 Generation adidas Cup title team.

Duke was 7-8-2 this season, their first losing season under head coach John Kerr since he took over the program in 2008. The Blue Devils last made the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and won it all in 1986.
