David Villa’s goal wasn’t the difference, but it was a dagger nonetheless.

The Philadelphia Union yet lose yet again, this time to hated rival New York City FC. The Union had a number of good chances with movement and getting the ball into dangerous areas in the first half, but they were unable to convert in the final third. Alejandro Bedoya had the best chance of the first half, but a great Sean Johnson save kept it scoreless.

The second half was a different story, as the Union came out flat and did not have many good chances. In the 52nd minute, NYCFC got the break they needed as Jack Harrison slid one past Andre Blake to make it 1-0. Jim Curtin called for the cavalry as Fabian Herbers and Jay Simpson were brought on to try and find a goal. Adam Najem was also brought on, making his Union debut. The substitutions were not enough, and in the 89th minute David Villa showed why he is the reigning MLS MVP by scoring a chip that beat Andre Blake from about sixty yards out with Jack Elliot draped all over him. This brought the score to 2-0 NYCFC, which ended up being the final score.
